Decision Partners and College Foundation Bring Financial Literacy Education to State of NC
Boston, March 20, 2008 - Decision Partners today announced that College Foundation, Inc. has licensed a series of online financial literacy courses produced by Decision Partners. The courses have been integrated into the College Foundation of North Carolina website, CFNC.org. College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), a free service of the State of North Carolina provided by Pathways, College Foundation, Inc. and the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority, helps students plan, apply and pay for college. CFNC.org currently provides services to over two million registered users.
Financial Literacy 101 is an interactive experience that's customized to the learning needs of each participant. By engaging students though multimedia instruction, personalized feedback, and real-world financial exercises, the courses work to prevent common financial problems and to reduce overall college debt. Topics include: creating a budget, avoiding credit card debt, choosing the right bank account, understanding credit reports and credit scores, choosing and managing education loans, debt reduction strategies, avoiding identity theft, and other financial topics pertinent to young people.
"We are delighted to have our course made available at CFNC.org," said Austin Jackson, CEO of Decision Partners. "CFNC partners have demonstrated a strong commitment to financial literacy education and understand that in order to have a measurable effect on the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of today's student, we must move beyond simply providing one-size-fits-all textual information. By truly educating students about money in an interactive curriculum tailored to their unique learning needs, we have a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of North Carolina's young people."
Two separate financial literacy courses for different age groups - an hour-long course for high school seniors and enrolled college students, and a short course for younger students - are available on the CFNC website. Both courses include comprehensive pre and post-course surveys, and an interactive exam to measure learning gains and to reinforce the most important parts of the course.
Although the courses are hosted on Decision Partners' web servers, they are branded to CFNC for a seamless user experience. The sites are linked through industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.
"Decision Partners not only provides a turnkey solution for adding key financial literacy content to CFNC.org, but the integrated survey and assessment tools give us a new way to learn about the needs of the students we serve," said Steve Brooks, Executive Director for the State Education Assistance Authority. "This aggregated insight can guide both online and offline resource development in the future."
In addition to the online courses, Decision Partners also provides College Foundation with a real-time administrative control panel for viewing and exporting usage statistics, quarterly usage reports, and a yearly aggregated data report containing pre and post-course survey data.
